Delete Your Account

How to delete your account and your data, and what happens when you do.

This page is for anyone with an account on The Word Bible App, the Bible reading and discipleship app made by Strengthening the Saints LLC. You can delete your account at any time. You don't need the app to read this page, and you don't need to be signed in.

Deleting your account cannot be undone. It takes effect right away. Your sign-in stops working and your personal data is removed from our live systems.

Delete it in the app

On iPhone, iPad or Android:

  1. Open The Word Bible App and go to the Me tab.
  2. Tap your name or photo at the top to open Your Profile.
  3. Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
  4. Read what will be deleted and what will stay. If you own a group, you'll see who it passes to.
  5. Type DELETE, tap Delete My Account, then confirm.

Delete it on the website

  1. Sign in at thewordbibleapp.com.
  2. Open Me, then select your name or photo at the top to open Your Profile.
  3. Choose Delete Account at the bottom.
  4. Type DELETE, select Delete my account, then confirm.

Or go straight to Delete Account. If you aren't signed in, we'll ask you to sign in first and then bring you back there.

If you can't get into the app or the website, email us and we'll delete your account for you.

Subject: Account Deletion Request

Please:

  • send it from the email address you use to sign in,
  • tell us the name on your account, and
  • say that you want your account deleted.

We check every emailed request before we act on it, so we know it really comes from you. We process requests within 3 business days. Once we do, the deletion takes effect immediately.

What is deleted

When you delete your account, these are removed from our live systems right away:

  • your account and your sign-in
  • your profile and profile photo
  • sermon notes, highlights, Bible notes and journal entries
  • prayer lists and memory verses
  • reflections, including ones you shared
  • your reading progress
  • your reactions to posts
  • your list of people you blocked
  • the push token for your devices

What is kept, and why

A few things stay, because other people rely on them:

  • Posts you made for others. Messages, replies, prayer requests, announcements and files you posted in a group, and comments in a study group's lesson discussion, stay so the conversation still makes sense. They are no longer linked to you and show as from “Deleted user.” If you want any of them gone, delete them before you delete your account. (Replies inside a thread can be deleted on the website.)
  • Groups and study groups you started. A group you own passes to its longest-serving leader or member. It is deleted only if nobody else is in it. A study group you started passes to one of its members, and stays without an owner if nobody else is in it.
  • Plans you wrote. They stay, no longer linked to you.
  • Church applications. An application you made stays, no longer linked to you. Your name, phone number, seminary and training background are removed from it. An application still waiting for a decision is withdrawn. The church's own details (its name, location, leaders list and supporting document) stay as part of that church's record.
  • Reports. Reports you made, and reports about content you posted, are kept so we can keep the community safe. The link to your account is removed. A report keeps its copy of what was reported (for a report about a member, their name), and the email we sent our team about it is not deleted.
  • Security records. Records such as account deletions, changes to church roles and invite use are kept as long as needed to secure the service and resolve disputes. They are no longer linked to your account, though a record of an administrative action may still name the people it involved.

Some data may be kept longer where the law requires it, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements.

How long it takes

Your account and personal data leave our live systems as soon as the deletion runs. Copies in our encrypted backups can't be edited one by one. They cycle out of the backup rotation within 90 days, and then they are gone for good. We never use backups to bring back a deleted account.

Server and error logs held by our hosting and error-reporting providers are deleted on those providers' schedules.
